There are undoubtedly many benefits to having an accountability partner when trying to improve a particular skill. In fact, there are over quite a few studies that suggest that having an accountability partner increases your odds of success.

According to Dr. Benjamin Hardy, an Orlando-based Organizational Psychologist, having someone to keep you accountable can increase your chances of success by 95 percent.

Accountability coaches can be quite costly, but fortunately, there are many partner accountability apps out there that help you stay organized and on track for success.

Whether you want to improve your radio calls or increase your understanding of radio phraseology, Aviation Radio Simulator ARSim by PlaneEnglish can be an excellent accountability partner.

Improving your pilot to air traffic control (ATC) communications requires practice, but it may require less time than you think. Here are a few tips for using the app to keep you on track.

Define your Objective

Goals Overall Image

With ARSim as your accountability buddy online, now define your objective and what you hope to achieve.

Since your ultimate goal is to become proficient in radio phraseology and a master of radio calls, then completing all the lessons in ARSim should be your primary objective.

Set a Daily Goal

A short-term goal allows you to break learning into small, more achievable segments and can help jumpstart your progress.

An excellent short-term objective is setting a dedicated daily study goal. With PlaneEnglish as your accountability partner app, it is easy to commit to studying for 10-15 minutes a day. Each section conveniently encompasses several short lessons that can be completed in a short amount of time, which is tracked in lesson progress.

You're probably thinking that you can’t accomplish much studying 10-15 minutes a day, but it's about building a good habit.

Research shows that studying for shorter intervals can lead to a better recollection of information.

This strategy is excellent for people with a short attention span or who are stretched for time. Becoming proficient at radio calls will require regular, daily engagement until you build the muscle memory and really learn how to practice ATC communications. Once you master how to practice, you can start setting bigger goals for yourself.

Set Milestones

Milestones can help create momentum and build on your learning streak while keeping you accountable to your goal. Logging your time shows progress, growth, and commitment, and measuring this progress keeps you motivated when you look back to see how far you've come.

You can set milestones with ARSim by completing each section. Each time a part is completed, the progress meter on the side gives you a visual reference of your proficiency with that section.

Create a Rewards System

A rewards system is a great way to stay motivated and accountable when chipping away at your goals. Every time you improve your proficiency, you should reward yourself with something that is meaningful to you.

A positive affirmation, like a visual reference of your achievements, can have a profound effect on your ability to maintain accountability and feel proud of your progress.

Create or Find an Online Community

You can create or join an online community that is dedicated to using the PlaneEnglish Aviation Radio Simulator as its accountability partner.

An online community such as a Facebook group, Reddit thread, or pilots forum is a great place to meet like-minded individuals.

When you join a group of people who are using ARSim as their accountability partner, you expand your network and can maintain accountability with others.

Summary: Accountability partners help you succeed

Having an accountability partner means that you are not alone on your learning journey. Every big goal starts with small objectives that build over time to create momentum as you begin to become accountable for yourself.

There are many useful tools available that can be used in conjunction with PlaneEnglish to help you stay on track. By having it as an accountability partner, you're increasing your odds of success with radio phraseology and building confidence when you speak to air traffic control (ATC).
